Nineteenth century had seen various new technologies in printing. The three innovations in printing technology during the nineteenth century are as follows:
i. During the mid nineteenth century, Richard M. Hoe from New York had improved the power driven cylindrical press. It had the capability of printing 8000 sheets per hour. It got specifically useful for printing newspapers.
ii. By the late nineteenth century, the development of the offset press which could print up to six colours at a time proved to be a remarkable invention.
iii. By the twentieth century, electrically operated presses were invented which further accelerated the printing operations.

Additional information:During the 19 century there was a sweep on mass literacy in Europe, which sprang up new readers among a varying age of people. As primary education became compulsory in Europe, the need for the production of printed books for children increased. During this time, women were considered as prominent readers and writers. Penny magazine was specifically meant for women as were manuals of teaching proper behaviour and housekeeping.

Note:New marketing strategies were developed by Printers and Publishers continuously to sell their product. The periodicals serialized important novels which introduced a new way of writing novels. Most of the popular works in the nineteenth century were sold in cheap series called the Shilling Series.
