Hint: Any faster moving particles will also show faster rate of reaction when subjected to chemical reactions.
Some materials have more intermolecular attraction than other materials , which causes a difference in their brittleness.
Interparticle space can be said to be a function of volume.
Complete step by step answer:
(a) Activity to point out evidence for motion of particles: Take two glass beakers. Fill one beaker with hot water and another with cold water. Add \[KMn{O_4}\] crystals in very small amounts in both. Hence we observe the motion of particles that the particles of \[KMn{O_4}\] move quickly in hot water than in cold water.
(b) Activity to point out evidence for attraction between particles: Take a bit of iron and a bit of chalk. Try to break them. We come to know that iron is too hard to break. From this, we are saying that the particles of matter have forces acting between them. That force kept the particles together. The force of attraction between particles is greatest in solids and least in gases.
(c) Activity to point out evidence for inter particle space: Take a glass beaker. Fill it with water. Measure the level of water with a scale. Add a spoon of salt and mix it well. We observe that there is no change in the water level. We can conclude that there exists inter particle space within the substances like water. Inter particle space is more in gases and fewer in solids.
Note:
When a substance is heated the kinetic energy of the particles increases due to which the number of collisions between the particles increase.
This causes an increased rate of reaction since there are more reactant molecules which are coming in contact .
