Hint: We can give an example through which we can say that particles of matter are not steady and are in continuous motion. We can use the example of gases which we can detect to explain this sentence.
Complete step by step solution:
- Particles of matter are always in continuous motion.
- The type of motion may differ as the state of the matter changes. In solids, the particles are rapidly vibrating around its place. In liquid, the particle can move around. In gases, the particles are free to move everywhere in three dimensional areas.
Now, we will take an example which shows that the particles of matter are continuous.
- Suppose there is a room in which one person is standing at a corner of the room. The other person is standing at another corner of the room and if he will spray the perfume then in a small amount of time, the other person who is there at the other corner can feel the smell of the perfume. This happened because the particles or molecules of the perfumes which are gaseous spread throughout the room and reached the other corner. With this example, we can say that particles of gases are always in continuous motion and can spread in the environment from the area of its higher concentration to the lower ones.
Note: Particles in solid do not move freely in the environment. Actually they are vibrating around its position. Remember that particles of liquid cannot go as far from its other particles as the particles of gas do. This is the reason why solids have fixed shape, liquids have roughly constant volume and gases can be expanded to various volumes.
