Hint:The term given here is induced magnetism which in itself explains that it is induced externally and is not an inherent property of a material. It is created on purpose and therefore is temporary in nature. For instance, iron rod when brought close to a permanent magnet starts behaving as a magnet and attracts materials like pins, clips.
Complete answer:
You must have seen when a permanent magnet is brought close to a magnetic object like an iron rod its starts behaving like a magnet and attracts other magnetic material like iron fillings, pins and clips. But as soon as the permanent magnet is removed the iron rod starts its magnetic ability and does not attract the iron fillings any more. This explains to us the concept of induced magnetism.
In presence of a permanent magnet magnetic properties get induced into the iron rod and it behaves like a magnet. But the behavior is temporary and short lived. There is no separated life for induced magnetism.Induced Magnetism can be defined as the acquiring of magnetic properties by a magnetic substance in presence of a permanent magnet that acts as an inducer.
Note:The induced magnets are only attracted by other magnets and not repelled. They do not produce their own magnetic field. Their magnetic field can be turned on and off by controlling the inducer magnet. The inducer magnetic pole causes a near – end opposite polarity and equal polarity on the further end of the induced magnet.
