You must have seen when a permanent magnet is brought close to a magnetic object like an iron rod its starts behaving like a magnet and attracts other magnetic material like iron fillings, pins and clips. But as soon as the permanent magnet is removed the iron rod starts its magnetic ability and does not attract the iron fillings any more. This explains to us the concept of induced magnetism.

In presence of a permanent magnet magnetic properties get induced into the iron rod and it behaves like a magnet.But the behavior is temporary and short lived.
