Hint: Furnaces are mostly used as major components of central heating systems. They are also referred to as heaters or boilers also. Furnaces primarily run on natural gas or electricity. They are also used in various metallurgy industries and also serve as reactors which provide heats of reaction.

Complete answer:
Furnace is a type of appliance that can produce large amounts of heat.
There are many types of furnaces like solar furnaces, vacuum furnaces and in industries furnaces are used for cremation, oil refining etc.
As we know, furnaces are of many types , let us see some important types;
(a) Gas furnaces: The most common type of furnace that is used today is natural gas furnace. Gas furnaces are effective at creating even heating and do not cost much to run because of the low price of gas as compared to other forms of fuel.
(b) Electrical furnaces: Electrical furnaces use electric heating elements to provide the heat. Electrical furnaces are usually inexpensive but are smaller than other furnaces so they can easily fit into most spaces.
(c) Modulating furnaces: These types of furnaces cost a little bit more. Modulating furnaces don’t waste energy but they run steadily as to regulate the power consumption
So if we compare gas furnaces or electric furnaces the electrical furnace is more efficient. A gas furnace produces a large amount of heat that the heat produced by an electrical furnace but gas furnaces are still preferred because natural gas is not that much inexpensive.

Note:Furnaces are also known by other names like incinerator boiler heater etc.
-When we look into expenses, oil furnaces are little more expensive than gas furnaces but in rural areas they can be chosen because there is no gas supply there.
