Hint: A displacement reaction is a type of reaction that replaces part of one reactor with another. Often known as a substitution reaction or metathesis reaction is a displacement reaction. The metal having higher reactivity will replace/displace the other one.

Complete Step by step answer: In a displacement reaction, a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element from a compound. A displacement reaction is two types -
1- Single Displacement Reaction
2 - Double Displacement Reaction
Single Displacement Reaction which is also called a single replacement reaction is a kind of oxidation-reduction chemical reaction when an ion or element moves out of a compound, i.e., one element is replaced by the other in a compound.
In Double Displacement Reaction Double displacement reactions occur when a part of two ionic compounds are exchanged and make two new components. Double displacement reactions take place mostly in aqueous solutions wherein the ions precipitate and exchange of ions takes place.
So as per above given reaction the equation is -
Iron displaces copper ions from an aqueous solution of copper sulphate. It is a single displacement reaction of one metal by another metal. In this reaction, metallic iron is converted into ferrous ion (Fe2+) and cupric ion (Cu2 +) is converted into metallic copper.

\[\;Fe\;\left( s \right){\text{ }} + {\text{ }}C{u^{2{\text{ }} + }}\left( {aq} \right) \to {\text{ }}F{e^{2 + }}\left( {aq} \right) + Cu{\text{ }}\left( s \right).\]
Iron displaces the copper atom from copper sulphate to form ferrous sulphate. In this reaction, the Copper is reduced with a gain of electrons.

The overall reaction will be, \[Fe + CuS{O_4} \to FeS{O_{4{\text{ }}}} + Cu.\]
Iron\[\left( {Fe} \right)\] \[ - \;\;\left( {FeS{o_4}} \right)\;\]Iron sulphate
\[\left( {CuS{O_4}} \right)\] Copper Sulphate - \[\left( {Cu} \right)\] copper

Note: Daily life example of displacement reaction is rust on iron. When pieces of iron are kept in the moisture, then the moisture in the form of rust covers these pieces of iron and slowly displaces the iron.
