" Municipal corporations are referred to by various names in different states (due to geographical language variations), all of which are converted as 'municipal corporations' in English. The area governed by a municipal corporation is known as a municipal area. Each urban area is divided into wards, defined as territorial constituencies. A municipal corporation consists of a council of wardens. There is one seat for each ward in the Wards Council. On the basis of an adult franchise, members are elected to the Wards Committee for a term of five years. In the state of Tamil Nadu, there are a total of 15 municipal corporations. The local government authorities in those towns in that specific state are City Municipal Corporations.
