Hint:-Chylomicrons are made up of a main central lipid core that consists primarily of triglycerides. However like other lipoproteins they carry esterified cholesterol and phospholipid. They are the small droplets found in the intestine after fat digestion.
Complete Answer:-Chylomicrons are also known as ultra low-density lipoproteins that consist of triglycerides (85-92%), phospholipids (6-12%), cholesterol (1-3%) and proteins. These transport dietary lipids from the intestines to other locations in the body. Ultra low-density lipoproteins are one of the five major groups of lipoproteins that enables fats and cholesterol to move within the water based solution of the bloodstream. Chylomicrons transport lipids absorbed from the intestine to adipose, cardiac and skeletal muscle tissue. Triglycerides components are hydrolyzed by the activity of lipoprotein lipase. It allows the free fatty acids to be absorbed by the tissue. When a large amount of triglycerides core has been hydrolyzed then Chylomicrons remnants are formed and are taken up by the liver. There are three stages in Chylomicrons cycles
Nascent Chylomicrons
Mature Chylomicrons
Chylomicrons remnants
Nascent Chylomicrons are made up of triglycerides and also contain some cholesterol. Nascent Chylomicrons further converted into mature Chylomicrons with the help of apolipoprotein C-II and apolipoprotein E.
The correct option is B. Chylomicrons are fat droplets coated with cholesterol and protein.
Note:- Chylomicrons have a density below 0.94 g/ml. They remain at the origin of lipoprotein electrophoresis. Triglycerides is the main lipid which comprises more than 75% of the particles. Chylomicrons have the lowest protein content of all the lipoproteins. They are formed in the endoplasmic reticulum of the small intestine.
