Hint: Chromyl chloride is known as the inorganic compound which is represented by the chemical formula $Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}$. This compound is reddish brown in colour and exists as a volatile liquid at room temperature. It is toxic in nature.
Complete answer:
Chromyl chloride can be prepared in the presence of sulphuric acid by the reaction of potassium chromate or potassium dichromate and the reaction proceeds with the help of distillation.
The sulfuric acid acts as the dehydration agent. Another method is also there to prepare chromyl chloride directly by exposing chromium trioxide to anhydrous hydrogen chloride gas. The method used to prepare chromyl chloride is used as the basis for a qualitative test for chloride in which a sample given which contains chloride is heated with a mixture of potassium dichromate and concentrated sulfuric acid. If chloride is present then chromyl chloride forms fumes of red colour.
Chromyl chloride gives yellow color precipitate when it first react with sodium hydroxide represented by the chemical formula $NaOH$and the reaction is shown as:
$Cr{{O}_{2}}C{{l}_{2}}+4NaOH\to N{{a}_{2}}Cr{{O}_{4}}+2NaCl+2{{H}_{2}}O$
The major product formed i.e. $N{{a}_{2}}Cr{{O}_{4}}$ reacts further with lead acetate represented by the chemical formula ${{(C{{H}_{3}}COO)}_{2}}Pb$ and form yellow precipitates and the reaction can be shown as follows:
$N{{a}_{2}}Cr{{O}_{4}}+{{(C{{H}_{3}}COO)}_{2}}Pb\to PbCr{{O}_{4}}(Yellow\ ppt)+2C{{H}_{3}}COONa$
Hence we can see that option C is the correct answer.
Note:
Chromyl chloride generally hydrolyses into hydrochloric acid represented by the chemical formula $HCl$ and chromic acid represented by the chemical formula ${{H}_{2}}Cr{{O}_{4}}$, this is toxic to us exposure of chromyl chloride produce irritation in our respiratory system.
