Hint: Find the amount of money Chintoo requires to buy 14 toys at the rate of Rs. 50 per toy. Now, add 40% of the initial price of a toy to the initial price itself to get the new price for one toy. Calculate the number of toys he could buy by dividing the total money required to buy 14 toys by the new price for one toy.

Complete step by step answer:
Here, we have been given that Chintoo has bought 16 toys at Rs. 50 per toy.
Price of one toy initially = Rs. 50
Now, it is given that the next day Chintoo returned with that amount of money in which he can buy exactly 14 toys. So, the amount of money required by him would be the product of the number of toys with the price of one toy. So, we have,
\[\Rightarrow \text{Total money required}=14\times Rs.50\]
\[\Rightarrow \text{Total money required}=Rs.700\]
Now, it is said that the price has risen by 40% for one toy. Therefore, we have,
\[\Rightarrow \text{New price for one toy}=Rs.50+40\text{ percent of }Rs.50\]
\[\Rightarrow \text{New price for one toy}=50+\dfrac{40}{100}\times 50\]
\[\Rightarrow \text{New price for one toy}=50+20\]
\[\Rightarrow \text{New price for one toy}=Rs.70\]
Therefore, the price of one toy will become Rs.70.
So, the total number of toys Chintoo could buy with this new price for one toy would be the ratio of the total money he bought to buy 14 toys to the new price for one toy. So, we have,
\[\Rightarrow \text{Number of toys he could buy}=\dfrac{Rs.700}{Rs.70}\]
\[\Rightarrow \text{Number of toys he could buy}=10\]
Hence, Chintoo can buy only 10 toys with the money he brought to buy 14 toys the next day.

Note:
One may note that since the price of the toy had risen therefore the number of toys he could buy became less. You can see that on the first day he bought 16 toys and the next day he could buy only 10. So, when we consider the total number of toys he bought in these two days, it would be 26. Do not get confused with the statement given in the question regarding the new price for one toy. It is not just 40% of the initial price, i.e. Rs. 20, but we have to add it with Rs. 50 also.
