Hint :In order to solve this question first we will learn what is copper oxide then we will study the composition of elements that are present in the formula of copper oxide . Then we will learn physical properties of copper oxide as well as will learn some of the physical properties such as melting point and the physical state in which it stays at room temperature.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
In order to solve this question first we know copper oxide is a compound from the two elements copper and oxygen.
Copper has two oxides first is Copper(I) Oxide is also called as cuprous oxide an inorganic compound with the chemical formula $ C{u_2}O $ . It is covalent in nature. Copper(I) oxide crystallizes in a cubic structure. It is easily reduced by hydrogen when heated It undergoes disproportionation in acid solutions producing copper(II) ions and copper.
And the second is Cupric oxide, or copper (II) oxide, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula $ CuO $ . Now we will proceed to the physical properties of $ CuO $
Copper ii oxides are insoluble in water but they are soluble in ammonium chloride. Copper ii oxide has a high melting point 1326 $ ^oC $ .its boiling point is 2,000 $ ^oC $ .at room temperature it is found in solid state.
Note :
Copper, which is a d block element, is named as cuprous or cupric based on the electronic configuration. The main difference between cuprous and cupric is that cuprous is copper +1 cation whereas cupric is copper +2 cation.
