Hint :First of all, we need to understand what photosynthesis is and what are the various criteria under which this process takes place . Also, what are the necessary chemicals that need to be present for the reactions taking place in photosynthesis. After understanding this, we can easily deduce what are parts where photosynthesis may/may not occur at.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Photosynthesis is defined as the process or phenomenon in which plants use sunlight, water and carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere to create food for them. The food is in the form of glucose, commonly termed as sugar. During this process, oxygen gas is released which is an essential gas used in our respiration process.
For the process of respiration to take place, plants use chlorophyll.it is defined as the green pigment present in plants. This is the reason why we see plants green in color.
In plants, the major site through which the process of photosynthesis is carried out is leaves. However, the criteria is such that any other site which has the availability of chlorophyll will be able to do photosynthesis. The example of other parts where photosynthesis can take place are modified roots and stems. Examples of plants where roots perform photosynthesis are trapa and tinospora.
Note :
The following question is focused over photosynthesis, and hence in order to tackle these types of questions, the definition and the criteria of the ability of the function is required. Also, note that plants consume carbon dioxide gas, which is released by us and we consume oxygen gas, which is released by them. Hence, we can clearly see the ecosystem balancing in this process.
