Most of the known elements have been tested for the magnetic property of which the most common property was diamagnetism. Some of the weak metals do not attract magnets. Copper is also one of those weak metals and that is why they are not picked up by a magnet. However, we can make them attracted to magnets by adding the property of the iron or steel and make them stronger.
