Stephan Hales is known as the father of plant physiology. He was an English priest who played a crucial role in scientific fields which include botany, pneumatic chemistry and physiology. He was born on 17 September 1677 in Bekesbourne, Kent, England. Hales started his education in Kensington and then attended Corpus Christi College, Cammbridge. He was appointed as a priest in 1709 at Fulham. Statical Essays is the best known work of Stephan Hales.

Information of his experiments based on plant physiology and chemistry is mentioned in the first volume of the book named Vegetable Staticks in 1727.
