There are three types of ways to obtain biofertilizers: Bacteria, fungi and cyanobacteria. In bacteria Example-Rhizobium is a symbiotic bacteria found in the root nodules of leguminous plants. Other examples of bacteria that act as biofertilizer are Azospirillum and Azotobacter are free living nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Symbiotic association between plants and fungi is called Mycorrhizae. In cyanobacteria these are blue green bacteria whereas Anabaena, Nostoc, and Oscillitoria are examples of nitrogen-fixing cyanobacteria. Function of biofertilizers increases the physical and chemical structure of soil like buffer capacity and water holding capacity of the soil. Rhizobium is an example biofertilizer that is introduced in roots and it fixes nitrogen for the plants. And are also used for nitrogen fixation.
