This terrifying incident of Bhopal happened on 2-3 December 1984. This happened at the UCIL that is Union Carbide India Limited; this is a pesticide plant that is present in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. The gas that was exposed in air due to this incident was methyl isocyanate. This is a very dangerous and toxic gas. It spread around the event to the small villages and affected around 5 lakh people. The liquid methyl isocyanate gas was stored in the plant in underground areas. More than fifty percent gas was not filled in those tanks. Above those tanks liquid nitrogen was added at higher pressure. During December, the safety precautions were not up to the mark and conditions were poor. It was believed that the waste must have gotten into the pipes of the tanks. Due to presence of water, impurities and use of the non stainless pipes leads to the increase in the pressure of the tank. This pressure and temperature conditions become critical in the tank. Ultimately the concentration of gas spread all over in the air.
