Complete answer:
The history of Indian railroads started more than 160 years ago. On 16 April 1853, the first passenger train ran between Bori Bunder (Bombay) and Thane, 34 km away. The trip lasted an hour and fifteen minutes. The line was established through an alliance with the Great Indian Peninsular Railway (GIPR) incorporated in 1849 and at that stage, the East India Company ruled over large swatches in India.

Success led to the subsequent launch of the rail lines in Eastern India (1854) and South India (1856), followed by the opening of the Calcutta-Delhi line in 1864 and the Allahabad-Jabalpur line in 1867, all of which were connected to the GIPR to establish a 4000-mile network spanning the width of India.

Therefore, the correct answer is A

Note:
The Indian Railway engineers took on the monumental task of constructing a track over Bhore Ghat, where an elevation of 2,000 feet was built to connect Bombay with Poona, with tunnels and reverse viaducts, and the track was eventually built over a period of nine years at great human expense.

The first railway workshop was built in Jamalpur, near Munger, Bihar, in 1862. Gradually, it became one of India's major industrial units, with iron and steel foundries, rolling mills and more.

In 1864, the North had its first station, the Delhi Junction. The oldest in the area, it was the main station and the intersection, and it remains so to date.
