The sky we see is blue because of the fact that when the scattering of light takes place through the atmosphere, the blue colour of the sky is due to scattering of light from the atmosphere. In the lack of atmosphere, there will be nothing present for the light to be scattered by, and hence it will appear to be black instead of the blue we see.
The reason we only see blue colour is because the blue light is scattered more than any other colour by the gas and particles that are present in the atmosphere. Blue light is scattered more than other colours because it travels as shorter, smaller waves
