Let us first define the states of matter and then we will discuss their properties to answer the problem.
Matter is any substance that has mass and takes up space by having volume. All everyday objects that can be touched are ultimately composed of atoms, which are made up of interacting subatomic particles.
We have three states of matter:
Solid, Liquid and Gas.
Gas: gas are well separated with no regular arrangement. Particles in a gas vibrate and move freely at high speed. Particles in gas move past one another. It assumes the shape of the volume of the container. Gases are compressible easily, lots of free space between the particles.
Liquids: Liquid particles are close together with no regular arrangement. Liquid vibrate, move about and slide past each other. Liquids are not easily compressible little free space between particles. Assumes the shape of the part of the container in which it occupies particles can move past one another.
Solids: Solid are tightly packed, usually in a regular pattern. Solid vibrates but generally do not move from place to place. Retains a fixed volume and shape, rigid-particles locked into one place. Not easily compressible have very little space between the particles. Does not flow easily and the particles do not move past one another.
Thus, we can conclude that solids have very less inter particles, then comes the liquid, Gases have maximum space between the particles.

None: After recent studies, the fourth state of matter is called plasma after solid , liquid and gases. As the liquid is heated up to get converted to gas when energy is added, heating a gas further will form the Plasma. Thus we say Plasma as the fourth state of matter.
