Hint:Sodium bicarbonate (or sodium hydrogen carbonate) having chemical formula \[NaHC{O_3}\] is also known as Baking Soda. It has various uses in the household and is commonly used in the kitchen to make cooking faster and make food soft and crispier. One of the raw materials that is used to produce sodium bicarbonate is Sodium chloride $\left( {NaCl} \right)$ .
$NaCl\; + {H_2}O\; + \;C{O_2}\; + N{H_3}\; \to \;N{H_4}Cl\; + \;NaHC{O_3}$
Here,$NaCl$ is Sodium chloride, $N{H_4}Cl$ is Ammonium Chloride and $N{H_3}$ is Ammonia
Complete step by step answer:
-\[NaHC{O_3}\] is used as ingredients of antacids. As it is alkaline so it neutralizes excess acid in the stomach and provides relief. For example: Eno
-It is used for making baking powder which is basically a mixture of baking soda and mild edible acid like tartaric acid and further baking powder is used in the kitchen to make cooking faster and to make food fluffier.
-When baking powder is heated or mixed in water, \[NaHC{O_3}\] reacts with acid to evolve carbon dioxide gas.
The chemical equation will be,
\[NaHC{O_3}\; + \;{H^ + }\; \to \;C{O_2}\, + {H_2}O\; + {\rm{Sodium salt of Acid}}\]
In the above reaction H+ is taken from any acid.
-It is being used in soda acid fire extinguishers and also as a mild cleaning agent.
Also, when Sodium hydrogen carbonate $\left( {NaHC{O_3}} \right)$ is heated during cooking as shown in the following reaction.
$2NaHC{O_3}\; \to \;N{a_2}C{O_3}\; + \;{H_2}O\; + \;C{O_2}$
Here,$N{a_2}C{O_3}\;$ is Sodium Carbonate.
Note:
Sodium bicarbonate and Sodium hydrogen carbonate is the same compound having chemical formula \[NaHC{O_3}\].As it is known that the baking soda and baking powder is not the same thing, baking powder contains baking soda as well as mild edible acid. Most common use of \[NaHC{O_3}\] is in the kitchen and also to treat upset stomach and indigestion.
