An individual should possess the following qualifications to be elected as the Vice-President of India.

The office of the Vice-President of India is mentioned in Article 63 to 71 of the Indian Constitution. He is elected indirectly by the members of an electoral college comprising the members of both the Houses of Parliament. Thus, his electoral college differs from the electoral college of the President in two manners; first – In case of election of Vice-President, both the elected and nominated members of the parliament participate, while only elected members of the Parliament participate in the election of the president. Second- the Vice-President election does not include the members of the State Legislative Assembly whereas; they are included in the President's election but only the elected ones.

Note: The manner of election of the Vice-President contains the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote and voting by secret ballot. He holds his office for a term of five years until his successor assumes charges. However, he may be elected for any number of terms.
