Poultry farming is the form of animal husbandry which deals with the raising of birds commercially and domestically for meat and eggs. Poultry management refers to the husbandry practices or production techniques that helps to maximize the efficiency of production. Broilers (Plymouth rock) is a type poultry bird which are exclusively grown for meat and Layers (White Leghorn) are female fowls raised for egg production. Poultry are very susceptible to a number of diseases like fowl typhoid, fowl cholera, pullorum etc. Bird flu is an avian influenza which can also attack human beings.

Selection of disease free and suitable breeds: Good quality of meat and eggs are dependent on the quality of breeds in the farm. selection of good breeds having high yielding potential under the climatic conditions of the area is very important.
Providing proper and safe farm conditions: To maximise the yield they have to be housed well, should have adequate water and be disease free.
Providing proper nutrition: The quality and quantity of food given to birds have to be in the right amount. Various types of food such as many cereals like maize, rice, wheat, oat, barley and a few cereal byproducts such as wheat bran and protein sources like fish, meat and soyabean etc..
Maintenance of proper hygiene: The poultry should be regularly cleaned. Hygiene plays an important role in good production of eggs and meat.

Bird flu is an avian influenza which can also attack human beings. It is caused by H5N1 influenza virus. Culling is a process in which infected birds are removed and killed.
