Hint: Population increase is mostly noticed when there is a high birth-rate along with low death-rate. Ever-increasing population is one of the major reasons for overpopulation of an area.

Complete answer: There has been a tremendous advancement in the field of science and medicine over the last few decades. With this advancement, the mortality rate has decreased considerably, thus birth rate remained high as usual but death rate decreased. This led to the situation of ever-increasing population. The world population is constantly increasing since then, for which the developed and the under-developed countries are more responsible. The developed countries through education, spread of awareness have come to a low birth-rate and low death rate situation, but the former ones are still responsible for population explosion.
Ever-increasing population leads to the condition of overpopulation, where population exceeds the amount of resources that can sustain that much population. The supply of food and clothing decreases. There is a reduction of per capita food availability in spite of increase in the production. Status of sanitation and hygiene decreases. There is considerable decrease in the per capita income of the people. The agricultural land had to be fragmented below economic levels. Unemployment is one of the major problems of an ever-increasing population. Thus, the standard of living of the people decreases. Economic conditions decrease and there is an increase in the poverty level for which this explosion of population is responsible. There is a shortage of drinking water. As people do not have proper houses to live, they start living in the streets, and slums are grown around the major cities. Crime rates increase as most people are poverty stricken.

Note: Though there are many drawbacks connected to the ever-increasing population, there are ways through which this situation can be controlled, if not very near in the future, at least after some decades or so. Education, awareness through campaigns, emancipation of women, though government policies, the population of the world which always tends to increase is hoped to come under control.
