Hint: In electrical circuits, any electrical components such as resistors, capacitors and many domestic components which are used in electrical network can be arrange in two combination either in series combination or in parallel combination, we will learn about series combination and then figure out the disadvantages of series combination in domestic circuits.
Complete answer:
In a series combination of electrical networks, all electrical components are joined end to end and in this case the current flowing in the electrical circuit is not distributed hence the same current flows in each component but the potential difference gets distributed and it is different for different components. Based upon this property of series combination these three are the main disadvantages of series combination in domestic wiring.
(a) In series circuits, all components don’t get the same voltage hence reduces their efficiency such as if two light rods are connected in series at home then both will not glow with their maximum efficiency.
(b) In series circuits, if one component gets fused or damaged, then current can’t flow in remaining of the components such as if two light rods are connected in series and one light rod gets damaged then another light rod will also stop working.
(c) In series circuits, if we want to close one component and let open others it’s not possible, such as if we want to switch off one light rod and let another open it’s not possible in such circuits.
Note: It should be remembered that, parallel combination is widely used in all domestic wiring systems due to its advantages over series combination such as all components get equal voltages in parallel circuits and even if one component gets damaged other will still keep working.
