Saccharum barberi was originally grown in north India but had poor sugar content and yield in the terms of productivity and quality. However, Saccharum officinarum had higher sugar content and thicker stems bud did not grow well in North India due to climate change in the terms of region wise while Saccharum officinarum was grown in South India. Hence, these two species were crossed with each other to have sugarcane varieties combining the desirable qualities of higher sugar, high yield, thick step and ability to grow in the sugarcane belt of North India.

Flat planting: By this method, sowing is done in a flat field in which the distance from line to line is 60 - 65 cm and a channel of 10 cm deep is made, in which sugarcane seeds are put.

Trench Planting: In this method, the trench maker makes the 30 cm wide and 30 cm channel and puts the fertilizer in that. After that, sugarcane seeds are kept in a parallel order 30 cm away in the pit.

Transplanting Technique: By it, transport the plant from nursery and planting in the field.

Ring Pit Method: In this method, firstly prepare the 50 cm wide and 45 cm deep channel in the field and put the 5-6 kg of cow dung and DAP in that, later put the sugarcane seed.

Saccharum is the botanical name of sugarcane and the origin of sugarcane is New Guinea. Saccharum officinarum is the most productive cultivation of sugarcane. Its stalks contain sweet juice from which sugar extract. Saccharum officinarum is the main ingredient of sugarcane in the terms of origin of sugarcane.
