Hint: We all know that sunlight is referred to as a white light which is formed from a different colour. These colors appear on the basis of their wavelength. It is a portion of the electromagnetic radiation given off by the sun, in particularly infrared, UV light and visible.
COMPLETE ANSWER-
Sunlight is a portion of the electromagnetic radiation. It takes about 8.3 minutes to reach the earth's atmosphere from the sun. The spectrum is mainly the one that spread into colours and are made up of infrared, visible light and ultraviolet light.
As we all know, the sun is the major source of energy. When the sun rays enter the earth, they get scattered by the earth's atmosphere, air molecules, dust, smoke as well as by pollution. We know that all the different colours of the spectrum have different wavelengths.
The spectrum thus formed as termed as VIBGYOR. On the long journey that the sun's rays make from the sun to the earth, these different kinds of the light in the spectrum mix up together and make up a whitish sunlight which is termed as white light. We all know that the sunlight is formed up of this white light.
Each of these colours have different energies and each of them move through the atmosphere with a different range of speed. When these wavelengths hit up the raindrop in the atmosphere each of the colours bend, instead of coming towards the earth directly in a straight path. One side of the drop is hit by the white light whereas on the other side it splits up into VIBGYOR, thus forming a rainbow.
This is because each colour bends up by an angle because of their difference in wavelength, thus showing up the colours. This is termed as dispersion of light.
Thus, the correct answer to the above question is B, Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red or we can simply say "VIBGYOR".
Note:
Sunlight is a key factor in photosynthesis, the process used by plants to make their own food. The sun emits Electromagnetic radiation across the electromagnetic radiation. Although the sun produces gamma rays as a result of the nuclear fusion. This converts to high energy emitting photons to low energy emitting photons before it reaches the sun's atmosphere and later are emitted out in the space.
