Poultry birds that are specifically raised for meat are known as broilers. They are raised for six to eight weeks to attain the maximum weight of nearly 1.5 kg.
Poultry bird is taken care of in a well-conditioned room, it is well protected from snakes, cats and dogs for which windows and ventilators are fitted with wirenets. The slopes of the room are covered by a paddy husk, saw dust, crushed maize cobs, etc. The poultry farms are provided with electricity, running water, resting places for birds and waters. They have given good quality grains, bran of rice and wheat, oil cake, fish meal, bone meal, a residue of vegetables, etc. They are regularly vaccinated against diseases like fowl cholera, fowl pox, candidiasis, Ranikhet, etc. The raw meat and egg become uncontaminated if it is cooked well.
The meat and eggs consist of vitamins like A, D, E, K, thiamine, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine, biotin, folic acid, niacin, etc. It also consists of nutrients like proteins, lipid, carbohydrates and minerals.

Note:
Broiler chicken is considered as bad for health due to inbreeding depression which leads to increased chances of avian disease by the H5N1 influenza virus which is also harmful to humans.
In case when egg production decreases or it becomes uneconomical then the layers are also used for its meat.
