Hint: Fossil fuels are fuels made from decomposing animals and plants. They are found in the crust of earth and consist of hydrogen and carbon, which are burnt for energy. Natural gas, oils and coals are examples of fossil fuels. They are called conventional and non-renewable sources of energy. They are not replenishable on their own and have limited availability. They are dwindling day by day.
Complete answer:
Alternative fuels are the fuels which substitute coal, petroleum and firewood. They are environment friendly. They are non-conventional and renewable sources of energy. Wind energy and solar energy are a few examples. They replenish on their own and are constantly available and are dwindling day by day.
Some alternative fuels, which are well known are bio alcohol, biodiesel, refuse-derived fuel, hydrogen, non-fossil methane, propane, vegetable oil, non-fossil natural gas, chemically stored electricity and biomass sources.
Energy obtained from the sun is solar energy. Considerable amount of helium and hydrogen is present. Fusion reactions take place.
Energy obtained from trapping wind using windmills is wind energy. Electricity is generated from blowing air. The blowing air depends on the uneven heating of the earth. As the heating of earth never stops, the wind energy is always available.
Hydrogen serves as one of the best alternatives for fossil fuels. Hydrogen gas is environmentally clean. On combustion, it gives off water. In addition, It does not cause harm to the environment.
Note:
Fossil fuels are formed from the remains of dead animals and plants billions of years ago. They are an exhaustible source of energy as their demand increases due to industrialization. There is the possibility of conservation of fossil fuels, which will help to be useful for longer times. They should be converted into efficient forms like CNG. They should be protected from fires. Wastage of oil should be avoided.
