Hint: Water having high mineral content is known as Hard Water. The mineral content includes high amounts of calcium and magnesium; water being good solvent picks up impurities easily. Hard doesn’t mean that water is literally hard or any touch of hard sense, the absorbing of minerals in high content named it hard as compared to the other soft water.

Hard water contains high content of minerals which is one of its best advantages. Calcium present in water helps in growth of bones and teeth. The water becomes hard when it moves through rocks like limestone and chalk that consists of minerals like calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate.
Depending on the removal of hardness of water it is categorized into two types- Temporary Hard Water and Permanent Hard Water. Temporary hard water includes calcium bicarbonate and magnesium bicarbonate which can be removed. Permanent hard water includes calcium sulfate and magnesium sulfate or the chlorides. These ions are difficult to remove even after boiling. Hard water is good in taste as compared to soft water. The adequate content of the minerals in hard water helps in removing constipation. The excess fat of the body can also be removed by bowels as calcium combines with it. Groundwater is the common source of hard water.

Note: Hard water also has many disadvantages as it leaves the skin dry and clogged pipes. The wearing of appliances takes place at an early stage due to hard water. Hard water is safe for drinking purposes if the mineral content is within limit. Hard water is not good to use for laundry and cleaning purposes. Apart from this it can cause serious damage to skin and hair.
