Hint: The different number of species present in an ecosystem is termed species diversity. It comprises the relative abundance of those species within the ecosystem. Species diversity is said to be the greatest when all the species present are equally abundant with each other.

Step by step answer:
The main constituents in defining species diversity:
Species richness: Species richness is defined as the number of different species present in an ecosystem. It depends on the abiotic temperature, air and water conditions of the ecosystem. Tropical areas are said to be rich in species that other ecosystems.
Species evenness: is defined as the relative abundance of individuals of the species. If the number of individuals is constant within communities, it is said to have high evenness.
Tropical rainforests consist of the earth’s half of the diverse species in both flora and fauna. There are approximately 5-10 million species of insects present, 40% of the total flower species are present, and 30% of the bird species are present. Tropical forests are rich in species due to favorable climatic conditions.
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is an example of species diversity. It is the home to the largest coral reef in the world. It contains approximately 400 different types of coral species, 150 fish species, 4000 species of mollusks, and 10 species of turtles.

Note:
Maintaining species diversity is a very important aspect of a healthy ecosystem. All the species depend on each other, therefore it is important to maintain species diversity. Species richness makes an ecosystem more sustainable and stable. Extensive species diversity tends to be more productive.
