Hint :Reduction reaction is basically the loss of oxygen atom from one molecule or we can say it as gain of one or more than one electron. In simple words we can simply say it as the molecule is being reduced.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
Let's look at some reduction reaction examples:
$ 2Mg + {O_2} \to 2MgO$
In the above reaction two oxygen atoms gain two electrons and form an anion.
$ Zn + 2{H^ + } \to Z{n^{2 + }} + {H_2}$
In this above example hydrogen ion get reduced to $ {H_2}$
For extracting iron from its ore
$ F{e_2}{O_3} + 3CO \to 2Fe + 3C{O_2}$
In this reaction both oxidation and reduction take place. This reaction is known as redox reaction.
Where the iron oxide undergoes reduction to form iron and the carbon monoxide undergoes oxidation to form carbon monoxide.
Note :
The gain of oxygen or loss of hydrogen atom is known as oxidation reaction. The reaction which involves oxidation and reduction at same time is known as redox reaction. Redox reactions take place during corrosion and combustion reactions.
