Hint: A mechanical wave is a type of wave which has an oscillation of matter, and hence, it needs a medium to transfer energy. While waves can yield long distances, the movement of the medium of transmission the material is limited. Therefore, the oscillating material doesn't move far away from its initial equilibrium position. A mechanical wave requires an initial energy input. Once this initial energy is given to the wave, the wave travels through the medium until all of its energy is transferred or exhausted. In contrast, electromagnetic waves require no medium, but can still travel through one.
