Hint: A collection of plants and animals, sharing common habitats and characters is called a biome. The major types of biomes are aquatic, grassland, forest, desert, and tundra.
Complete answer:-
The aquatic biome has occupied almost seventy-one percent of the total surface of the earth. Thus they are the largest among all other biomes. There are mainly three types of aquatic biomes found on the earth. They are freshwater, marine, and brackish water.
1. Freshwater
The freshwater contains a very low content of salt. The freshwater ecosystem is of two types, such as lentic and lotic ecosystems. The lentic ecosystem consists of stationary water reservoirs, such as a pond, lake, etc. It is also called the lacustrine ecosystem. While the lotic ecosystem implies the system where the water is in motion. They are also known as the riverine ecosystem. Examples of such ecosystems are rivers, springs, channels, and streams.
2. Marine water
Marine water contains very high salt content. The most suitable example is the ocean. The ocean is the largest ecosystem. The marine ecosystem is most diverse.
3. Brackish water
Brackish water is created due to the combination between freshwater and seawater. An example of a brackish water ecosystem is an estuary. It is a transition area, where the running freshwater from the land mixes with the saline seawater. The salinity of the estuary varies from the freshwater area to the seawater area.
Note:
The organisms living in marine water are capable of tolerating its extreme salinity.
But the organisms in the estuary are specially adapted to live in the brackish water.
freshwater organisms can't survive the salinity of marine water.
