Because of the movement, friction is created which melts the oceanic plates and it can lead to earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. When two continental plates collide, either of them cannot drop. So the land buckles up and forms folded mountains. This is known as collision margins. Earthquakes may happen at collision margins.
