Hint :Earlier Carbocations were known as carbonium ions. The heterolytic cleavage is an organic molecule where a carbon atom shares or donates a pair of electrons and after this carbon atom will have positive charge which is known as carbocations.

Basically, carbocations are generated when a carbon atom does not have a full octet or we can say does not have eight electrons in its valence shell which results in getting positive charge for the carbon atom which is called carbocation.
The formation of carbocation allows rearrangement to take place in a reaction to get more stable products through it.
So there are basically three ways to get stable carbocation: one is to capture the nucleophile, second is loss of proton and third is rearrangement.

There are different carbocations named on the basis of the number of carbon groups bonded to carbon atoms. It is termed as methyl, primary, secondary, tertiary respectively on the basis of how many carbon atoms which are attached to it. There are other types of carbocations also.
