A bacteriostatic drug is that which prevents the growth of bacteria in the living organism. We can also say that bacteriostatic drugs are used to stop the growth of the bacteria. It is not used to kill the bacteria but indeed it is used to stop its growth for further. Therefore we can say that bacteriostatic drugs usually stalls the cellular activity of the bacteria without directly causing its death.
