1. The Bay of Bengal lies to the Eastern coast of the Indian peninsula. The Bay of Bengal stretches over an area of 2,600,000 square kilometers. A number of large rivers drain their waters into the Bay of Bengal: Ganges–Hooghly, Padma, Brahmaputra, Barak, Irrawaddy, Godavari, Mahanadi, Brahmani, Baitarani, Krishna, and Kaveri. Among these rivers, the major Indian rivers are- the Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri. The Irrawaddy is a river flowing in Myanmar.

2. The Eastern coastal plain of India has been divided into segments from North to South;
> The southern part is known as the Coromandel Coast, and
> The Northern Stretch is known as the Northern Circar.

In case of the Western Coastal plain, they are divided into 3 different sections;
> The southern part is known as Malabar Coast,
> The Central part is known as the Karavali or Kanara, and
> The Northern Part is known as Konkan.

The Mahanadi is the only river that doesn’t cover the course from western plains to the eastern ones because it emerges in the southern edge of the Chhattisgarh plains.. Also, Eastern Coastal Plain is the region lying between the Bay of Bengal and the Eastern Ghats; while the Western Coastal Plain is the region lying between the Arabian Sea and Western Ghats.
