Hint: First we need to understand the difference between rotation and revolution. When an object turns around its internal axis or we can say around its axis it is called rotation and if the object circles around an external axis then it is known as revolution.
Complete step by step solution:
As per the problem we have to analyse two different statement
Statement 1: Besides revolving around the Sun, a planet rotates on its own axis.
When a planet is rotating around its own axis we can say at the same it revolves around the sun also. Rotation around its own axis takes less time to complete as the distance is smaller in comparison to reveoleong around the sun.
Statement 2: All planets revolve around the sun and rotate on their own axis.
Not only one planet but also all the planets in the solar system revolve around the sun but from different distances and due to this a year completes after every revolution. And at the same time all the planets rotate around its axis and due to this phenomenon day and night occurs in every complete rotation.
If we talk about Earth it will take 365.242 days to complete one revolution and 24hours to complete one rotation.
Note:
Remember this revolution and rotation affect the planets in many different ways like change of season, change of day to night, temperature change, humidity changes etc. Another important things to know is while rotation, the axis has an angle of $23{\dfrac{1}{2}^\circ }$ and is perpendicular to the plane of Earth’s orbit and the revolution speed of earth is $30km{s^{ - 1}}$.
