The given salt is a double salt of Ferrous Sulphate and Aluminium Sulphate. It is known as halotrichite and is a double salt as it contains two different cations, \[F{e^{2 + }}\] and \[N{H^{4 + }}\]. Chromium alum alternatively known as Chromium (III) potassium sulphate is represented by the chemical formula \[KCr{\left( {S{O_4}} \right)_2}\]. When halotrichite and chromium alum is heated in excess of sodium peroxide ($N{a_2}{O_2}$) and the resulting solution is filtered the observation is discussed below:
