Hint: The adenoid is the superior most of the tonsils and also called pharyngeal tonsil or nasopharyngeal tonsil. It is a mass present in the lymphatic tissue which is located behind the nasal cavity in the topmost part of the nasopharynx where the nose blends into the throat.

Step by step answer:The abnormal growth of the pharyngeal tonsils is known as adenoid hypertrophy. The adenoid is the constituent of the Waldeyer ring of the lymphoid tissue which includes palatine tonsils which are tubal tonsils and lingual tonsils. Adenoid develops from the subepithelial infiltrates of lymphocytes after some weeks of embryonic life.
Adenoid hypertrophy can swell up to the size of a ping pong ball which can completely block airflow through the nasal passages. It can also lead to blockage of airflow that can lead to breathing through the nose requiring an uncomfortable amount of work but inhalation can occur through an open mouth. This enlargement of the adenoid can also affect the voice without actually stopping the nasal airflow altogether. This enlargement occurs frequently between 18 and 24 months of age which can lead to snoring, obstructed breathing during sleep.
Hence, the correct option is A. Glandular tissue at back of the nose enlarges.

Note: Enlarged adenoid can be surgically removed which is called adenoidectomy. Infection in adenoid causes certain symptoms like excessive mucus production which is treated by the removal of adenoid. Adenoidectomy involves the adenoid being cauterized, ablated, or lasered. The adenoid is often removed along with the palatine tonsils.
