When a tissue loss the capability to divide and differentiate is called permanent tissue. The permanent tissues are completely grown as they are made up of mature cells. These types of tissue hold a particular shape and size. Their function is also definite. The cells of the tissue can be found either living or dead. The thickness of the cell wall also varies, some are thin-walled while some are thick-walled.
There are three types of permanent tissue found which are simple permanent tissue and complex permanent tissue and special tissue.
Simple permanent tissues consist of a single type of cells i.e. the cells are similar in origin and their structures and functions are also the same. The simple permanent tissue is called homogeneous tissues. Three types of simple permanent tissue found and are parenchyma, collenchyma, and sclerenchyma.
Parenchyma is composed of thin-walled, living, and oval-shaped cells with vacuoles and a definite nucleus. In the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, of a plant parenchyma tissues are present.
When the parenchyma tissue contains chlorophyll i.e. this tissue contains chloroplast is called collenchyma tissues. The cell wall of collenchyma is thick which is composed of cellulose and pectin. It is a simple, living permanent tissue but it is not found in roots as it is generally found in stems and leaves.
If a parenchyma tissue contains air space, then it is called aerenchyma. This type of tissue is found in aquatic plants. These are soft spongy type tissue and create an air channel in leaves and stems to help in the exchange of gasses.
Collenchyma is composed of thick-walled, living cells that are elongated in shape without intercellular spaces. The collenchyma tissue can be found in the leaf stalks, under the epidermis. These types of tissue hold elasticity properties which gives flexibility.
