Hint: The field of experimental science is based on assumptions. Experiments are carried out that leads to observations about the various aspects in the field of research. Scientists perform experiments that provide evidence about the researches but not the result, these are predictions and used as explanations in form of theories and hypotheses.

Complete answer:
The discoveries of the structures of atoms, and their properties are a result of the experiments carried out by various scientists. These experiments can sometimes lead to effective results but sometimes they can lead to assumptions without a possible and precise answer with accuracy. Evidences called as observations are made into account on each of the experiments that are made into work. These assumed patterns in any experiment are called hypotheses.
A hypothesis is an assumption, which is made on the basis of some set of observations. Hypothesis includes an investigation that leads to the observations or evidence regarding various components. A hypothesis may be based on the proposed scientific theories, past studies, or present day conditions. A hypothesis is used to carry out various experiments and investigation and make surveys in a particular direction.
Hence, an explanation for a set of observations or answer to a scientific question is called hypothesis.

Note:
Hypothesis are of various types like, simple, complex, directional, non – directional, null, associative and causal. These hypotheses are used to study various patterns based on the set of observations. Example, a person consuming junk food every day can lead to obesity. This is an example of a simple hypothesis.
