Notified districts are those that have been published in an area under municipal enactment by the state legislature. Every state has its own municipal districts, which are overseen and governed by the state's official gazette officer. A notified district organisation, unlike a municipality, is a totally nominated body.

Municipalities that are not notified are those that are not visited and controlled by government officials. Non-notified municipalities encompass all areas other than notified municipalities.
