Hint: This is a very simple calculation to do. We usually have done this in our school times. Here the cost of one such notebook is given. We have to find the cost of 8 such notebooks so simply multiply the cost of one notebook by 8. And to find the number of notebooks we can buy in a given amount we will divide the amount by the cost of one notebook. So let’s start!

Complete step by step solution:
Given the cost of one notebook as, Rs.186.
Now when we buy x such notebooks we will simply multiply the cost of the above one notebook by x.
So, for 8 notebooks, we will multiply it by 8.
Thus the cost of 8 notebooks is given by, \[ = 186 \times 8 = 1488\]
So, the cost of 8 notebooks is Rs.1488
Now when we have x rupees and the cost of 1 item is given ; we divide the x amount by the cost of 1 item to get the idea how many items can be bought. So here also we will do the same thing.
But we can see that the given amount Rs.356.60 is not a multiple of 186 like their division does not result in remainder as zero.
And it is not like we can buy half a notebook or one-fourth notebook.
So this amount is not sufficient to buy more than one notebook.
So, we can buy one notebook.
There will be some money left (\[356.50 - 186 = 170.5\]) with the person but unable to buy another notebook.

Note: Note that when the cost of one is given and need to find the multiple we simply multiply.
Also note that in the second case, we can buy grains, fruits, cloth in half or less than a full quantity. So in that case we can simply divide the amount. But not in this case.
For example, the cost of one dozen apples is Rs.100 and I have Rs.150 with me. So I can buy one full dozen and along with that half a dozen in remaining Rs.50
Hope this is clear!
