So, when there is a combination of substances and each of the substances can retain their identity even after mixing is known as a mixture. The substances can combine in any proportion in the mixture and we can also say that the properties of the mixture are the properties of its constituents.
Let us study this statement with the help of an example of a mixture. There are two components sodium chloride salt having formula NaCl and water having formula ${{H}_{2}}O$ are mixed together to form a mixture known as a salt solution. So, this salt solution has the properties of its constituents, like we know that the sodium chloride has the ability to conduct electricity because it has ions and the salt solution also can conduct electricity. Water is in liquid form, so it can flow and the solution also has the ability to flow.
So, we can say that the properties of salt and water are retained in the salt solution.

The salt solution is an example of a homogenous mixture the solution formed is a clear solution and both of the constituents are combined completely, and if the compounds form different layers then it is known as a heterogeneous mixture.
