Let y be the length of the image which can`t be seen by the boy.
From, similar triangle theorem we get.

& \therefore y = \dfrac{{0.8 \times {x_0}}}{{x + {x_0}}} - - - - (1) \\

Similarly, we get
$\dfrac{{1.4}}{{x + x + {x_0}}} = \dfrac{{0.8}}{{x + {x_0}}}$
$\begin{align}
&\Rightarrow 1.4 \times \left( {x + {x_0}} \right) = 0.8 \times \left( {2x + {x_0}} \right) \\
& \therefore {x_0} = \dfrac{x}{3} \

By rearranging the above equation we get

Substitute equation (2) in equation (1) we get

& \Rightarrow y = \dfrac{{0.8 \times {x_0}}}{{3 \times {x_0} + {x_0}}} \\
& \Rightarrow y = \dfrac{{0.8{x_0}}}{{4{x_0}}} \\
