Exercise 4.4

Refer to page 19-22 for Exercise 4.4 in the PDF.

1. Construct the following quadrilaterals

(i) Quadrilateral DEAR

$DE = 4cm$

$EA = 5cm$

$AR = 4.5cm$

$\angle E = 60^\circ $

$\angle A = 90^\circ $

Ans: STEP 1: Firstly, we have to draw a rough figure of given measures:

STEP 2: Firstly, Draw a line segment DE of 4 cm and an angle of $60^\circ $ at a point E. Then cut a line segment EA of length 5 cm.

(Image Will Be Updated Soon)

STEP 3: Now, again draw an angle of  $90^\circ $ at point A.Since, vertex R is at distance of $4.5cm$  from vertex A, then mark a line segment RA of $4.5cm$ from this particular ray.

DEAR  is the required Quadrilateral.

(ii) Quadrilateral TRUE

$TR = 3.5cm$

$RU = 3cm$$UE = 4cm$

$\angle R = 75^\circ $$\angle U = 120^\circ $

Ans: STEP 1: Firstly, we will draw a rough figure of the given measures:

TRUE is the required quadrilateral.

Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 - Excercise Overview

Geometry is an essential chapter in Mathematics, and it deals with various aspects like mentioned below

  1. Shapes

  2. Sizes

  3. The position of various two-dimensional figures as well as three-dimensional ones

Students are required to have a clear understanding of the figures and their properties together.

To solve questions correctly, they should have appropriate clarity in their apprehending ability too. It will drive them in the right path while approaching a particular question during the exam. With our NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4, you can gain an in-depth analysis of all these topics.

Our faculties at Vedantu have left no stone unturned to bring out the best of explanations required for each topic covered in this chapter of practical geometry. Handling several formulas for each type of 2-D and 3-D figures are essential while solving numerical.

This mayhem can be eased through our list of formulas and tabular representation of all the essential properties of a figure that you are likely to deal with here. Further, our solutions are available in the PDF format, which will allow you to access them from anywhere and at any time.

Here is the gist of Exercise 4.4 Class 8 and a brief explanation of all the questions it covers, for your convenience.

Exercise 4.4 Class 8 - Questions

There are two questions under this, where you are asked to draw figures based on the given data. No particular is to be followed as per the questions. However, in geometry, you need to follow specific guidelines for drawing figures with appropriate measurements.

Students need to be careful about these guidelines when they construct. And you can get these guidelines along with the precautions in our study material for NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4. We have listed the process in a step by step manner so that you do not miss out any of them.

Both the questions and their solutions are explained hereunder.

Part (i)

The first question asks you to construct a quadrilateral whose three sides and two angles are given. Students should have a clear idea about these following points:

  • A quadrilateral has four sides.

  • It is a 2-D figure.

  • It may not be a square or rectangle always.

  • All its angles may not be 90 degrees.

These are some of the critical factors that you will learn in our NCERT Solution for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4. It will help you to build on the fundamentals of geometry in a simplified manner.

Further, we have manifested the process to draw the figure in a stepwise manner, so that you can follow the instructions and construct accordingly. The benefit of following a fixed or pre-determined method is that you make use of the data provided and bring out the required figure appropriately.

Therefore, make sure you follow the instructions diligently. A regular revision of the steps involved in the procedure will help you do it faster during the exams. Hence, we provide our study materials for NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 in PDF form, so that you can have a look at them at any point in time as desired.

Part (ii)

The second question is similar to the previous one, only with different naming for the sides. Students need to be through with the following basics to ace these sums easily:

  • Basics of angles and how to construct them.

  • How to use a compass, protractor, and set squares.

  • A rough idea of how wide a particular angle can be.

  • Sign conventions for representing angles and sides.

Rules of Naming The Vertices of a Figure.

With this basic knowledge, you can learn how to construct the figures from the step by step guide present in our NCERT Maths Solutions for Class 8 Chapter 4. These solutions are compiled by our subject experts at Vedantu who have dealt with various students in the past decade and learned about their difficulties.

Hence, they have tailored these solutions most straightforwardly to help you in developing a suitable understanding of the same. It will further help you in accomplishing the task while in the actual exam without any hassle or error.

The most essential part of the construction that our tutors recommend students in NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 is to draw a rough sketch from the given data and keep it aside before you start to solve it according to conventional rules. This trick will help you in either or both the following ways:

  • You can match it with the final figure and crosscheck whether it is correct or not.

  • You can use the rough sketch as a reference while you construct the figure with the help of a compass.

Certain precautions that our tutors also suggest are as follows:

  • Ensure that your pencil is sharp enough without any blunt or uneven lead.

  • Use a smaller pencil, preferably a shorter one than the compass.

  • The measurements printed on the ruler must be visible.

  • Use a transparent ruler, if possible.

  • Tighten the pencil in the compass properly, so that it does not bend.

  • Mark the juncture point (where lines/curves cut each other) with a pencil dot.

All the parameters mentioned above are essential and should be kept in mind both while practising as well as in exams. Hence, keep our NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 handy, as this will help in smooth construction and as a result, you can avoid silly mistakes too.

Maths Class 8 Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 - Other Exercises

The chapter has a few other exercises as well, and a brief overview of those is given below.

  • Exercise 4.1: Four questions are here, and you have to construct two quadrilaterals, one parallelogram, and a rhombus with the data given. The measurement of each side of the figures is provided; you have to use a compass to draw them correctly.

  • Exercise 4.2: You are asked to draw two quadrilaterals and a Rhombus in the three questions in this exercise. The length of each side is given for each figure, which is to be used appropriately in a sequential manner to bring out the correct figure.

  • Exercise 4.3: There are three questions here. You have to draw the figures like rectangle and parallelogram with the given sides and angles for each case. Follow our NCERT Solutions for Class 8 Maths Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 for a quick guide to these questions.

  • Exercise 4.5: It has four questions in all, where you are asked to construct the following:

    • A square whose one side is given.

    • A rhombus whose two sides are given.

    • A rectangle whose two adjacent sides are given.

    • A parallelogram whose two sides are given.

You can refer to the Maths NCERT Solutions Class 8 Chapter 4 Exercise 4.4 for a detailed explanation of the procedures to be followed while constructing these. We have made sure that you do not miss out on any essential point while constructing the figures.

A minute shift in measurement can distort the whole figure. Hence, you should be highly careful while measuring from the scale. Also, using a properly sharpened pencil will ensure that you select the right meeting point for two lines. Also, the point where you cut the line using your compass will be visible.
