Important Questions for CBSE Class 7 Hindi - Mahabharata

CBSE Class 7 Hindi Mahabharat

As mentioned above, CBSE Class 7 Hindi Mahabharat is the story of the fight between good and evil, in the form of the battle between Kauravas and Pandavas with Kauravas depicting the evil side and Pandavas depicting the good side. Due to the question of heredity and ownership of the throne of Hastinapur, this battle takes place.

King Shantanu of the Kuru dynasty is the one who originally sits on the throne of Hastinapur in the beginning. He falls in love with Ganga and they two have eight children together out of which only one named Bhisma survives. After Ganga leaves, King Shantanu over a period of time falls in love with a fisherwoman named Satyavati. For his father’s happiness, Bhishma forsakes any claim to the throne and vows to remain unmarried and protect the throne of Hastinapur. By doing so he persuades Satyavati to marry Shantanu.

After some turn of events, Vichitravirya the youngest son of Shantanu and Satyavati inherits the throne of Hastinapur. He has two sons - Dhritarashtra with his wife Ambika and Pandu with his wife Ambalika. Even though being the eldest son, Dhritarashtra does not inherit the throne because of his blindness after the death of his father. This responsibility is shared by Pandu who now becomes the King of Hastinapur. Already living in an inferiority complex because of blindness, Dhritrashtra grows jealous of his younger brother.

Following a series of events, the Pandava has to leave the throne and the kingdom for exile. With no other successor left Dhritarashtra is made the King of Hastinapur. During this period, both - Dhritarashtra and Pandu became fathers of a hundred sons and five sons respectively, who became known as Kauravas and Pandavas respectively. The untimely death of Pandu because of a curse forces the Pandavas to return to Hastinapur with their mother and widow wife of Pandu, Queen Kunti. Thus, from there onwards there is a sense of hatred brewing between the Kauravas and Pandavas and Dhritarashtra being emotionally blinded by the love for his son Duryodhana keeps on favouring him and his brothers instead of being fair to all.

Following a multitude of series of events and many trials to stop a war, an epic battle ensues between the forces of Kauravas and Pandavas. Mahabharat is the story of this war and the sense of just and unjust, right and wrong, good and evil. Lord Krishna, an important character of the mythology, also narrates a series of lectures emphasizing the importance of the action which are together known as Bhagavad Gita. Thus, there are many moralistic stories that students can learn from the Mahabharata.
