Top Medical & Paramedical Courses After NEET UG 2027

The main courses under NEET-UG are MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS. NEET scores are also used for specified veterinary and nursing admissions, but not every healthcare degree follows the same entrance route. For NEET 2027 aspirants, the important distinction is between courses where NEET is mandatory and programmes where its use depends on the institution, counselling authority or applicable regulations. This guide explains the course options, durations and admission checks you should make before preparing your preference list.

List of Courses Under NEET-UG 2027

The following six undergraduate medical, dental and AYUSH degrees require NEET-UG under the established admission framework. Use this table for planning, and confirm the final requirements in the NEET 2027 information bulletin and the relevant counselling prospectus when released.

Course Full Name Academic Study Compulsory Internship Total Duration
MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery 4.5 years 1 year 5.5 years
BDS Bachelor of Dental Surgery 4 years 1 year 5 years
BAMS Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery 4.5 years 1 year 5.5 years
BHMS Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery 4.5 years 1 year 5.5 years
BUMS Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery 4.5 years 1 year 5.5 years
BSMS Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery 4.5 years 1 year 5.5 years

Important: These are standard course durations, including the internship shown separately. Qualifying NEET does not guarantee admission. Your rank, category, eligibility, choices and available seats determine the allotment.

What You Study in the Main NEET Courses

MBBS for Modern Medicine

MBBS covers subjects such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, medicine, surgery, paediatrics and community medicine. It combines classroom learning with clinical training. Graduates must complete the required internship and meet applicable registration requirements before practising. Specialisation generally requires further postgraduate training.

MBBS admissions at AIIMS and JIPMER use NEET-UG; their earlier separate MBBS entrance examinations are no longer the admission route. Do not assume that this rule also applies to every nursing or allied health programme offered by these institutions.

BDS for Dentistry and Oral Healthcare

BDS focuses on teeth, gums, oral tissues and related conditions. Subjects include oral pathology, oral medicine, periodontology, prosthodontics and paediatric dentistry. It suits students interested in oral healthcare and precise, hands-on clinical work. Independent practice requires completion of training and applicable professional registration.

BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS for AYUSH Disciplines

These are distinct professional qualifications, not interchangeable alternatives to MBBS. BAMS focuses on Ayurveda, BHMS on Homoeopathy, BUMS on Unani medicine and BSMS on Siddha medicine. Each has its own curriculum, regulatory requirements and scope of practice.

Before choosing an AYUSH degree, understand the medical system you will study, the clinical training available and the permitted professional scope. Check any course-specific language requirements, particularly for BUMS and BSMS, in the applicable admission rules.

For a broader comparison of alternatives, explore Vedantu’s guide to Courses Other Than MBBS Under NEET-UG 2027.

Veterinary, Nursing and Other Courses with Different Admission Rules

Many online lists place every biology-related degree under NEET. This can be misleading. The courses below need a separate check because their admission route is not identical to the six degrees listed above.

Course Duration Guidance NEET Admission Position
BVSc & AH — Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry 5.5 years, including a 1-year internship NEET is used for the 15% VCI All India Quota; verify other seats separately.
BSc Nursing Usually 4 years, including clinical training NEET is used for specified admissions, not universally for every nursing college.
BNYS — Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences Commonly 5.5 years, including internship Check state and university rules; do not assume a uniform national NEET requirement.
BPT — Bachelor of Physiotherapy Verify the curriculum and internship applicable to the 2027 batch. Check updated allied health regulations and their implementation for 2027.
BOT — Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Verify the curriculum and internship applicable to the 2027 batch. Check updated allied health regulations and the admitting authority’s prospectus.

For physiotherapy and occupational therapy, older statements about entrance requirements or course length may not reflect newer regulatory changes. Neither “NEET is never required” nor an old duration table should be treated as reliable guidance for the 2027 intake.

Courses That Should Not Automatically Be Listed Under NEET

The following programmes may use university entrance tests, state admission processes, qualifying-examination merit or other notified routes. A college may accept NEET scores for a particular programme, but that does not make NEET compulsory nationwide for that degree.

  • BSc Medical Laboratory Technology or Medical Laboratory Science
  • Medical Imaging, Radiography and X-Ray Technology programmes
  • Optometry programmes
  • Operation Theatre and Anaesthesia Technology programmes
  • Dialysis Technology programmes
  • Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy Technology programmes
  • Medical Records or Health Information Management programmes
  • BPharm and BSc Agriculture

BSc Agriculture is an agricultural degree, not a paramedical course. Similarly, an allied health qualification does not grant the same professional role or scope as MBBS. Review Medical Courses Without NEET Eligibility for further options, then verify each programme’s current admission notice.

Eligibility and Counselling Checks for NEET 2027

NTA conducts NEET-UG, but admission and seat allotment are handled by the relevant counselling authorities. Registering for the examination does not automatically register you for counselling.

  • Age: Under the established NEET eligibility framework, candidates must complete 17 years by 31 December of the admission year. Confirm this in the 2027 bulletin.
  • Qualifying subjects: Check the prescribed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English requirements, including the accepted qualification route.
  • Course eligibility: Verify category-wise qualifying-examination marks, NEET qualification requirements and any additional course-specific conditions.
  • Seat eligibility: Domicile, nationality, reservation and institutional rules can differ by quota.
  • Admission cutoff: The minimum score needed to qualify NEET is different from the closing rank needed to obtain a particular seat.

For MBBS and BDS, the Medical Counselling Committee handles specified All India Quota, central institution and deemed university admissions, while state authorities handle relevant state-level seats. For BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS, AACCC handles specified AYUSH counselling seats, with state authorities conducting other applicable admissions. Veterinary and nursing applicants must follow their respective admission notices.

Private MBBS colleges also require NEET qualification and admission through the applicable authorised process. Read Vedantu’s guide to Admission to Private Medical Colleges Through NEET before evaluating private-college options.

How to Build Your Course and College Preference List

  1. Choose the professional role first: Consider whether you want to work in modern medicine, dentistry, an AYUSH discipline, animal healthcare, nursing or rehabilitation.
  2. Verify recognition: Check the college and course’s approval with the relevant regulator for your admission batch.
  3. Compare training quality: Look at clinical exposure, teaching facilities, internship arrangements and patient interaction.
  4. Calculate the full cost: Include tuition, hostel charges, other compulsory fees and any bond or service obligations. Do not assume an internship stipend is guaranteed.
  5. Use closing ranks carefully: Compare previous admission data for the same category and quota. Historical ranks are guidance, not guaranteed 2027 cutoffs.
  6. Track each application separately: Maintain a checklist for registration, documents, choice filling, allotment, payment and reporting.

Keep your shortlist flexible while preparing, but arrange counselling choices in your genuine order of preference after checking the applicable rules. A course should fit your interests and financial circumstances, not simply be the first available seat.

Saving the Course List as a PDF

If you need a list of courses under NEET-UG PDF for offline reference, use your browser’s Print option and select “Save as PDF” to save this guide. This creates a personal reference copy, not an official admission document. Keep the NEET 2027 bulletin, counselling prospectus and college fee notices alongside it, and avoid relying on older downloaded lists for current eligibility decisions.

For NEET 2027, begin with the six main NEET-mandatory degrees: MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS. Check veterinary, nursing, naturopathy and allied health admission routes separately. The most useful course list is one that combines verified eligibility, realistic costs and a clear understanding of the profession you want to enter.
