Hint: As we know, washing soda in a chemical compound that can be used to remove stains from laundry is an essential component in most homemade laundry detergents for powder. The chemical formula for washing soda is $N{a_2}C{O_3}$ or sodium carbonate. So, here in this question we further describe the uses of washing soda.
Complete step by step answer:
Here are some uses of washing soda:
Washing soda is used in laundries and in softening of water as washing soda. Moreover, it is used in the manufacturing of glass, sodium silicate, caustic soda etc.
It is used to remove the permanent hardness of water. It happens due to the presence of the chloride, nitrates and sulphates of calcium and magnesium, which will not be precipitated by boiling. And the lime scale can build up on the inside of the pipe restricting the flow of water or causing a blockage.
As we know in chemistry, hardness of water is that cannot be removed by boiling as it results mainly from the presence of calcium and magnesium chlorides and sulphates.
As we use washing soda to make home-made laundry detergents, to clean especially in hard water, and some even use it as a laundry additive only to soften water.
Note: Basically, as softener water which is only based on salt works to remove high concentrations of calcium and magnesium from water through a process which is called ‘ion-exchange’. This process ‘softens’ hard water by substituting the hardness minerals.
Washing soda is not the same as baking soda. They are two different compounds and both are used differently in different processes.
Washing soda is a natural cleaner and a powerful water softener.
